There are many fruits and vegetables that come in their own packaging. Some businesses feel the need to take those items and place them in man made/machine packaging.
Canadian supermarket chain Sobeys is the latest company to sell a prepackaged fruit. You might remember Whole Foods selling prepackaged peeled oranges.
A representative for the supermarket responded by saying it had developed the product “for people who might be new to using avocados and for a little more convenience,” adding that it “eliminates the guess work when it comes to ripeness and any challenges if you are not familiar with peeling and seeding a fresh avocado.”
Here are my issues with it:
1) It’s packaged in plastic and cardboard when it already comes in it’s own compostable packaging.
2) Selling one avocado for $4!?!
If you are going to sell something like this, perhaps we need to come up with a way to make it environmentally friendly.
