The Magnificent Seven topped the weekend box office with a $35 million take. Which is no big surprise, many people expected it to come out on top.
Sony has had a number of big successes this year.
Studio exec Josh Greenstein said in a statement, “Sony is on a very hot run of profitable movies between The Angry Birds Movie, The Shallows, Sausage Party, Don’t Breathe and now Magnificent Seven is another great win for us. Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt are an incredible winning combination, and we’re in business with them moving forward in the future with Chris on Passengers and Denzel on Inner City. Antoine did a great job, putting his signature stamp on this film and making it the biggest opening of his career.”
Storks’ $21.8 million take landed the film in second place but is being viewed as a flop due to its $85 million price tag.
Sully dropped into third place.
