It seems Queen’s University has made the news… Not for a good reason.
Queen’s is in trouble – Hundreds of students got together for a culturally offensive party. The party’s theme was “different nationalities”, where the students dressed up as different cultures.
Comedian Celeste Yim saw the pictures come up on her Facebook and was so disgusted she posted the pictures on her Twitter… She says the party made her feel sick to her stomach.
Principal David Woolf found out about the party and said this:
“Queen’s strives to be a diverse and inclusive community free from discrimination or harassment of any kind. Any event that degrades, mocks, or marginalizes a group or groups of people is completely unacceptable.
As far as we can ascertain, this event did not occur on campus. No event of this kind would be sanctioned by the university’s senior administration. However, we are taking the matter very seriously, and continue to look into it. If we determine that this was a Queen’s sponsored or sanctioned event, we will take appropriate action.
Students or other community members who are in need of support as a result of these events should contact Student Wellness Services at 613-533-6000 ext. 78264 the Human Rights Office ext. 36886 and/or University Chaplain Kate Johnson at 613-533-2186. ”
Many people believe the party was racist and offensive, however… Some people believe that our society is too sensitive.
What do you think?
