Mariah Carey ushered in 2017 with a botched performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. She appeared to have technical difficulties during her live performance Saturday night in Times Square. Carey was visibly upset during the performance and afterward tweeted…
Shit happens Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here’s to making more headlines in 2017 pic.twitter.com/0Td8se57jr

Her rep Nicole Perna blamed technical difficulties, and in an interview with Billboard she said Dick Clark Productions hampered Carey’s performance. A spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions responded to claims from Carey’s camp that the producers “set her up to fail,” calling the claims “absurd” and added that an investigation indicated that they had no involvement in the technical issues. The performance rocked social media when Carey couldn’t seem to keep up with a prerecorded track. After stumbling through one song, Carey stopped singing “We Belong Together” after another mishap when she lowered the microphone from her mouth, but vocals kept playing.
