The 89th Academy Awards will go down as a memorable event, that is for sure. Why? Well, we had Hollywood vs. Washington thanks to President Donald Trump, who remained VERY quiet on social media. The red carpet is known for the glitz and glam and it was quite political, with many celebrities wearing blue ribbon pins in solidarity with the American Civil Liberties Union. And we can’t forget about the big OOPS of the night, and I’ll get to that in a second.
There were some really great moments at the Oscars, i.e Justin Timberlake opening with a performance of “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”

Host Jimmy Kimmel kept everyone laughing, he wasted no time walking the line between politics and hilarity.
One of the night’s most awe-inspiring moment occurred when Mahershala Ali launched the awards portion of the ceremony by becoming the first Muslim actor to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
La La Land was nominated for 14 awards, tied with Titanic and All About Eve for the most ever, and ultimately won six awards, including those for Best Actress and Best Picture. OH WAIT…they didn’t win Best Picture. NOPE!!
The most memorable moment of the evening by far was when La La Land was named as winner of Best Picture, only to have it taken away and given to Moonlight in an epic mix-up that left everyone scrambling. In the middle of the acceptance speech, the La La Land crew was told that presenter Warren Beatty read their name in error. Kimmel came on stage to show everyone the winning envelope, quipping: “I knew I would screw this up. I promise to never come back.”
