A bike-sharing project to launch this week in the city’s downtown and university area.
The orange bikes are secured by an onboard lock on the back wheel and are parked within designated parking spaces.
Customers can access the bikes by downloading an app to their smartphones, using it to find the closest bike available for rental, pay the $1 an hour rental fee and receive a combination to the lock.
After you drop off the bike you are required to take a photo and upload it to the app, as proof of where to left the bike and it’s condition
It’s a green plan but is it a viable plan?
With no docking lock for the bike, what is to stop a person from walking off with the bike even if they are tracked by GPS?
